J's Live Spacesometimes it takes a defibrillator... January 09 From the Desk of Loki...
Today I received a letter in the mail with an envelope of a graphite hue. Enclosed in this envelope was a memo, and a much smaller envelope self containing a 256MB flash drive. The memo in the envelope states the following:
Contained on the flash device are three files:
So what is this all about? 'The Vanishing Point Game', it's a contest with puzzles and prizes. Events around the world are to occur at specific times and giving clues to help solve puzzles and earn points. Last night an event occurred in Las Vegas at the 2007 CES event which unlocked the first Puzzle Box. Some of the puzzles are hard to figure out, but there's lots of people who are getting involved and helping one another. The prizes are great! Grand Prize is the ultimate vista: a three to four minute sensation of weightlessness 100 kilometers straight up into SPACE. What's cooler then that! Tons of other great prize too, lots of hardware and software to be given away... and this, a bonus prize; One lucky person will receive a signature chip meaning their name will be inscribed on each and every AMD Athlon 64 FX chip made from the time of the award through to the end of March '07. There's lots of support around for solving these puzzles, as many people are quite active on this at Neowin. If you do sign up, please put me as a referral person in the registration process. A few of days ago I received an email notifying me that I was not a loser, thanks for the email Mom!… just kidding.
The email was a congratulatory message informing me that I was a lucky winner in a prize giveaway. Undoubtedly we all received these types of email claiming prize & fortune, so thinking this is spam like it usually is I dis-regard it.
Days later I’m reading a few blogs then see my name... amoung 5 lucky people to receive a copy of the official Windows Vista Preview magazine published by Future. Sweet!
So, props to Long Zheng for hosting the contest on his blog! you can check it out here: http://www.istartedsomething.com/
~Jason October 04 pre-PTThank you all for your heart felt comments. I love you guys.
Late Blog posting…
11:51am Oct 4th Boarded 5mins ago and traveling towards Seattle currently on the TransCanada #1 Highway.
I’m feeling a lot better now. My father drove me to the bus depot and we spoke briefly of his fathers passing on the way. I was early for the bus and sat outside smoking and in tears (kicking myself too). A woman came to the secluded area for a cigarette. Her name was Marian, a mother of 2, a wife, a daughter to an ailing mother. We talked about religion, sickness and life. She was a very nice person whom helped me clear my mind and put things into another perspective.
The bus is now exiting the highway bound for the border. Drats! My MP3 player is not working… 4 hours with my thoughts; this will be a long ride.
11:00 pm Oct 4th I’m at the Hilton, checked in earlier and then headed off the meet up with people and catch a ride to the Claim Jumper. About ten of us in the lobby, everyone is really friendly. Errrg, I’ve got a massive headache brewing. We arrived at the restaurant and I managed to track down some pain pills for my head, started feeling much better but no appetite. Paul Donnelly and his wife were there, and pretty entertaining. Fun fact: the number of bugs submitted on Connect totals 61,000 up to date (this includes dupes, take into account 31k testers… this shows many inactive testers
I’m now at the hotel in the Business Center now, all alone, this is costing me a logon fee and per min use so I should go, save some $$… off to the lounge for a drink then to bed.
~Jason Oct 4, 2006An hour before I leave for the bus, ain’t feeling so good.
Last night I had a hard time sleeping, lots of anxiety, tossed and turned thinking about life and stuff, and now I‘ve just learned of my grandfathers passing. Donald Jorgensen, 91. Recent and rapid development of lung cancers eventually took my grandfather and I feel horrible cause I choose to go on a vacation instead of going to see him on his death bed. I need a kleanx.. I feel so self-centered, and my decision was disrespectful. October 02 Packing my bags...I’m packing my bags in anticipation for a trip to Redmond bound for a Windows Vista product tour at Microsoft. This PT will consist of 50 Vista Beta Testers from all over the globe. Myself, I’ll be traveling a short distance by Greyhound Bus from Surrey, BC Canada departing Wednesday Oct the 4th. This will be my second time to Seattle but my first to Redmond, there will be an NDA to sign and agree to before the tour so needless to say I’m very stoked to see what’s in store from Microsoft for Vista. :D With an Internet Café I should be able to update this blog with event that are not related to the purpose of the NDA so be sure to check back for updates. So I’m slowly packing now, let's see: a toothbrush, pit stick and clean underwear… that should be good? heh heh ~Jason September 22 White & Nerdy by Al Yankovic
